Billing Specialist - Cape Girardeau
Reports To:
Supervisor
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adheres tall organizational policies related tHIPAA and Medicare Compliance
- Assists in maintaining all applicable and necessary accreditations, especially Medicare and Medicaid
- Assists patients and/or caregivers to select appropriate products in-person or via phone, following the prescriber guidelines, patient and caregivers’ needs and preferences, and insurance allowable items
- Counts the contents of the cash register drawers, maintaining receipts, records, and withdrawals and prepares appropriate change order requests
- Maintains an appropriate working knowledge of the following:
- Requirements for prescriber office documentation for Medicare and Medicaid DME claims
- What documentation is required to substantiate prescribed products
- Which forms prescribers must complete prior to dispensing for optimal reimbursement
- Prescription hardcopy requirements
- Dispensing requirements for:
- Bedside commodes
- Braces/supports
- Canes
- Compression or TED hose
- Crutches
- Diabetic shoes and inserts
- Diabetic testing supplies (strips, lancets, monitor, control solution, batteries)
- Lymphedema sleeves
- Nebulizers and nebulizer solution
- Ostomy supplies
- Post-op boots
- Urological supplies
- Walkers, wheelchairs, transport chairs, rollators
- Wound care products
- Medicare HCPCS codes and usage for Medicare and Medicaid claims for reimbursement
- Medicare and Medicaid guidelines for allowable dispensing quantities and frequencies
- Requirements for prescriber office documentation for Medicare and Medicaid DME claims
- Maintains patient/facility accounts (AR) in pharmacy dispensing software(s) for John’s Pharmacy and John’s Rx:
- Applies payments, charges, or credits appropriately
- Performs adjustments when needed
- Generates statements following protocol using the pharmacy dispensing software and any associated third-party software or portal to disseminate statements to payors
- Performs patient diabetic shoe fittings, including assessing patient paperwork for completeness, performing foot exams and measurements, assisting patients to select appropriate shoes, and assisting patients to assess fit after shoes arrive at the pharmacy
- Performs retro-billing for Medicare and/or Medicaid insurance billing after patients receive coverage confirmation
- Provides excellent customer service in-person or via phone for all patients and authorized representatives regarding patient or facility accounts. Patient or facility calls regarding accounts receivable should be returned within 1 business day to ensure maximum satisfaction
- Provides specific quote information concerning requested pricing for patient supplies to patient or caregivers within 1 business day of request
- Understands and can explain clearly long-term care regulations regarding medications:
- circumstances when Medicare part B and Medicare part A apply and appropriate billing in each category
- copay charges from medications taken home from the facility (split-billing)
- Understands and follows appropriate rules and regulations to collect, record and maintain documentation concerning dispensed items, thereby reducing audit risk
- Understands and regards facility specific contract terms regarding billing, accounts, and patients statements
- Understands, follows and completes all applicable steps in the DME dispensing procedures for every prescription
- Verifies all demographic and insurance information in patient registration of the dispensing software system at the time of charge entry to ensure accuracy, provide feedback to clients and supervisor, and to ensure timely reimbursement

LTC Pharmacy Technician - Cape Girardeau

Our team of dedicated pharmacy technicians and pharmacists serves residents of long-term care communities across Southeast Missouri. A John’s Rx Pharmacy Technician:
- Communicates directly with facility staff to process new and refill prescription orders for long-term care residents.
- Assists pharmacists by accurately performing order entry, prescription fulfillment, and organizing/toting prescriptions, preparing them for delivery.
- Displays an excellent customer service attitude.
- Follows state and federal pharmacy laws and guidelines.
- Works efficiently with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Serves as the backbone of an outstanding pharmacy team.

- Flexible work schedule with split shift scheduling: M-F 8 am to 4:30 pm and 10 am to 6:30 pm. Limited Saturdays. No Sundays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Expedites prescription processing by performing all duties necessary and allowable, by policy or law.
- Receives new and refilled prescriptions from customers for filling.
- Verifies name and address (if applicable) of the person the new prescription is to be filled for, as well as, legibility of the prescriber’s name.
- Obtains from the prescription files those prescriptions which have been requested to be refilled.
- Prepares labels for new/refilled prescriptions.
- Accommodates customers when they arrive to pick up prescriptions.
- Processes cash register transactions for new and refilled prescriptions.
- Ensures necessary communications are provided to the customer, such as instructions, side effects and medication descriptions.
- Arranges customer consultations with Pharmacist, when requested.
- Procures signatures from customers for all prescriptions received.
- Answers incoming calls and directs to Pharmacist when appropriate, such as new prescriptions, questions about medication, judgmental decision, etc.
- Completes and processes third-party documents.
- Fills prescription refills or new prescriptions.
- Files patient profiles.
- Fills bins with prescription vials.

The staff pharmacist reports directly to the Pharmacist in Charge/Pharmacy Manager. Staff pharmacist can additionally report to the Director of Operations in coordination with the Pharmacist in Charge, regarding any issue/concern that cannot be resolved by the Pharmacist in Charge.
Job Overview:
The staff pharmacist is the patient advocate and serves as a resource to advise prescribers for the best available pharmaceutical products or services for his/her patient. The staff pharmacist proactively assures that the customers’ prescriptions are filled accurately and timely, and that the customer is counseled appropriately with all pertinent information on the use of their medication. The staff pharmacist also serves as a direct and accessible resource to the pharmacy technicians they supervise in day-to-day workflow. They are readily available and willing to support the Pharmacist in Charge in any capacity they are asked. The staff pharmacist ensures all federal, state, and local laws are being followed as well as company policies and procedures regarding all pharmacy operations. They are the liaison between pharmacy technicians/other pharmacy staff and the Pharmacist in Charge, regarding day-to-day workflow communication.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Workflow Responsibilities:
- Verifies proper storage and handling of all medications, including storage units (refrigerators/freezers) and ambient temperature monitoring
- Ensures accuracy of prescription data entry and makes corrections as warranted
- Ensures timely and accurate prescription filling performed by pharmacy technicians
- Verifies purchasing is completed daily and inventory remains at an acceptable level, as defined by company standards
- Ensures necessary legal documentation during all steps of filling prescriptions to meet legal requirements and reduce audit risk

- On-call pharmacist receiving staff call-outs are to report to the appropriate Pharmacist in Charge

- Recommends alternative pharmaceutical therapy when appropriate to prescribers and patients
